March 2008

Poor Harry was rehomed by us about 5 years ago.
At the time he was brought in, he had been used as an ashtray, with many burn marks all over him.

We got him better and found him a (we thought) loving new home. That 'new home' moved away and we lost track of them.

A couple of weeks ago, the RSPCA rang us, to say they had Harry in their care and that he was microchipped to us. It looked as if he had been hit by a car a long time ago and he couldn't put his front leg out straight and held it to him all the time.

They suggested we allowed them to either cut off the leg or put the dog to sleep! We said NO WAY! We want him back!

Harry is now back with us. He has been x-rayed and has no bone damage. He is having weekly visits from a veterinary physiotherapist, weekly swims at a canine hydrotherapy pool and daily physiotherapy here with us.

In only a WEEK he can already extend the leg, almost to it's correct position. The physiotherapist is confident that he will use the leg again!!!!

Harry is a gentle soul who has suffered too much at the hands of human-kind. His last injury went untreated and we can only guess at how long this boy has held his leg like that, in pain.

We will be VERY VERY fussy about where he goes from here. He has some unexplained scars on his face. He is friendly with absolutely everyone, including other dogs. He bears no malice for what has happened to him. All Harry's pain and suffering has been avoidable.

Harry is progressing well. He has been trying to use his injured leg gradually.
Naturally, he a little tentative at first.

But he is gaining confidence all the time .

To aid his rehabilitaion, Harry has been going for hydrotherapy sessions and is doing really well. The physio thinks he will gain complete use of his leg.
Here he is showing us how hard he works.

Harry is so loving despite what he has endured. He gives everything to the people he trusts. A wonderful dog.

Apr 14th update :

Thank you so much to his physio who made it all possible.
